Healthy Foods To Avoid

Yes, it’s true. Not all foods that are said to be “healthy” are actually good for you. Sometimes, it’s the food in itself, but sometimes it’s the way it is grown or produced that makes the food unhealthy. Here is a short list of just 10 foods to avoid:

#1 Diet soda – Although, many people think diet soda is healthy to drink, it has been linked to heart disease, diabetes and metabolic syndrome.

#2 Canned tomatoes – Tomatoes are good for you, but chemicals in the linings of the cans can cause heart disease, diabetes, and obesity, which are a particular health problem among African Americans.

#3 Low-fat peanut butter – You might think the reduced fat is better, but the truth is it actually has more sodium and sugar than regular peanut butter.

#4 Low-fat salad dressing – Again, low fat results in reduced calories but also more additives.

#5 Corn-fed beef – Cows that are fed with grain rather than grass to fatten them up offer far less nutrition. Grass-fed cattle beef contains much more beta-carotene, vitamin E, omega-3s, calcium, magnesium, and potassium and less saturated fat.

#6 Turkey bacon – Extremely high in sodium and additives. If you want bacon, get the real thing.

#7 Microwave popcorn – Again, it’s not so much the popcorn as it is the bag and the microwave. Chemicals in the popcorn bag can cause infertility, and microwaving makes the chemicals transfer to the popcorn and stay in your body for years.

#8 Potatoes – Regular potatoes sold at the store have been treated with herbicides, pesticides, and fungicides which are absorbed into the potato you eat. If you like potatoes, buy organic.

#9 Conventional Apples – Non-organic apples (and other fruits) are often sprayed with pesticides which are linked to cancer and Parkinson’s disease.

#10 Salmon – farmed salmon, especially from Northern Europe, are treated with antibiotics and pesticides which can be carcinogens (cancer-causing).
