Diet Plus Exercise

Actually, both diet and exercise are important to maintain good weight control and overall health. Ideally, combining both will provide the best results in both weight loss and healthy eating habits. But, if you have to choose one over the other, exercise is more important Why exercise is more important While diet is usually aimed toward losing or maintaining weight, exercise has far more benefits that go beyond just weight loss or control. Exercise benefits the entire body. Regular exercise, about 150 minutes a week (U.S. guidelines), increases strength, improves the heart and lungs, helps keep cholesterol levels low, and is good for the brain by producing more serotonin. How exercise helps control weight Exercise also helps burn fat. Walking briskly can burn 400 calories an hour, and running can burn 700 calories. One study published in The Journal of Applied Physiology reported that doing cardio vascular exercise three times a week for an hour each can increase the body’s capacity to burn calories by 36 percent. Whether it’s walking, running, biking or swimming, exercising on a regular basis is very important for overall health, especially as we age. Of course, for best results, eating less and eating healthier, combined with regular exercise, will provide the best results. No matter which one you tackle first, be sure to give yourself credit and a pat on the back for taking the first step toward healthier living!
